The disappearance of 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh pre-med student from South Riding, Virginia, has prompted her family to urge Dominican Republic authorities to broaden their investigation to include potential kidnapping or abduction scenarios.
Konanki was last seen around 4:50 a.m. on March 6, 2025, walking on the beach near the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana, where she was vacationing with five female friends. Despite extensive search efforts involving helicopters, drones, scuba divers, and sniffer dogs, there has been no sign of her.
Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, expressed concerns about the investigation's focus on the water, stating, "They are focusing on the water, but we are requesting them to look at other possibilities, like kidnapping or abduction." He and his wife have traveled to Punta Cana to assist in the search for their daughter.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that multiple U.S. agencies, including the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations, are supporting the Dominican National Police in their investigation. Additionally, the Embassy of India in the Dominican Republic is actively involved, as Konanki is also an Indian citizen.
University of Pittsburgh officials have contacted Konanki's family and are offering full support during this challenging time.
Authorities have questioned a young man believed to have been with Konanki shortly before her disappearance.
However, no further details have been released. As the search continues, the family remains hopeful for her safe return and urges anyone with information to contact the appropriate authorities.
